Betty Vaughn’s perfect day finds her painting. Whether in her coastal studio or on her dock by Harris Neck Creek, the views are inspiring. She paints nature, especially the marsh and the beautiful birds on the way to or from the Harris Neck Wildlife Refuge. Betty lives with her husband in McIntosh County, GA.
Travel and volunteering at the Old Jail Art Center of which Betty served as president and helped develop are of special interest to her. She enjoys interaction with McIntosh Art Association members and seeing artwork by the many artists that exhibit there.
In addition to MAA, Betty is an active member of the Darien United Methodist Church where she serves on the Board of Trustees. Her years as a financial executive in Atlanta contribute to her ability to serve her church and community.
Painting has changed my life. Once I was a Type A but now I am a calm relaxed artist having a lot of fun. Time and place are no longer relevant, only light, color and form. I can actually feel my brain shift from the analytical person that I was to the new creative one and paint for hours before switching back to the analytical side to balance my bank statement, etc.
My granddaughter is now a second year student at SCAD in Savannah. In addition to Sally, I have had several art teachers in the last year, including Karen Burnett, Carly Hardy and Ken Wallin. I am blessed to be able to take classes from both Karen and Carly at the present time. They are very different in their techniques, giving me the opportunity to learn more.
Betty had two paintings selected to hang in the Georgia State Capitol in February 2014. She was photographed with her paintings (for sale) and Governor and First Lady Mrs. Deal on the delivery date.
